ABOUT THE SPEAKER

SMT. SWAPNA GEORGE

Smt. Swapna George is a post-graduate in Administrative law from Kerala University, a Diploma holder in Journalism from the Institute of Journalism under the Press Club Trivandrum and an alumna of the Government Law College, Kozhikode. She has several certifications and credentials to her name with a wide range of expertise and interests such as journalism, the legislative process, administrative law, women’s rights, and child rights to name a few.
She has previously served as the Sub Editor/Reporter specifically handling legal writings in Kalakaumudi Weekly based at Thiruvananthapuram. She acted as a member of Prison Advisory Board, Women’s Prison, at Trivandram, was also a member of the Kudumbasree Mission Executive Committee, a Legal Consultant of the Women’s Commission, served as an Ex-Officio member of the Sexual Harassment Internal Complaints Committee, State Women’s Commission, and Directorate of Coir Development. Apart from these, she was a member of the Kerala State Youth Commission and is a social activist with the Anti Trafficking Unit of Kerala Police.
During her academic career, she was a guest faculty of Kerala University SDE, Institute of Journalism of Trivandrum Press Club, Police Training College Trivandrum and Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala. She now holds the position of Vice-principal at CSI Institute of Law, Parassala.
Her prowess as a researcher was materialized by the many articles and research reports she has written over the years. Her article on Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013 in the book titled ‘Anadhikarathinte Bhalaprayogangal’ published by Chitha Publishers, a research study report on the topic “Sexual abuse on Cyber Space” for Kerala Women’s Commission are some of them. She has also presented various papers on Child Rights, Legal Aspects of Protection of Women and Sexual Abuse.
She is an avid writer and has penned a lot of articles for various journals and magazines including Mathrubhumi daily, Kerala Koumudhi daily, Mangalam daily, Malayalam weekly, Kalakaumudhi weekly and Madhyamam weekly.
